FAQs
What if I’ve never led inductive Bible study before?
The IBSC is a virtual “workshop in a book.” It is designed so teachers unfamiliar with inductive study can effectively lead their students to study the Bible inductively. The Teacher’s Guide contains an introductory lesson explaining the main points of inductive study, complete with illustrations. Throughout the guide, inductive study tips are provided to help teachers give more thorough explanation of the inductive process.

What resources are available for teachers?

Each IBSC course includes a corresponding Teacher’s Guide complete with unit and lesson objectives, course scope and sequence, discussion guides, tests and quizzes, and a supplemental Scripture memory plan. An electronic “Teacher’s Helps” file is also available containing blank charts, Observation Worksheets, maps, tests and quizzes, etc. for reproduction, overhead, and presentation use.

Additionally, training in Inductive Bible study and implementation of these materials is available through Precept Ministries International. Teachers and staff involved in this training can receive CEUs for their participation.

How is IBSC different from other Bible curriculum?

Inductive study enables students to discover truth for themselves. Other curricula focus on worldview training or give students a broad survey of select Bible texts. The IBSC enables students to observe, interpret and apply Biblical truths in context. Other curricula encourage memorization of key facts and remove the joy of discovery from personal study. In addition, main application points are often missed since these courses focus on the main theme of the book rather than the meat of what the full context is saying. The IBSC allows students to discover truth for themselves and use their understanding to formulate a biblical worldview.

Teachers and students are excited about the IBSC because:

  • it teaches inductive study skills
  • students aren’t told what to believe, but challenged to think through the text
  • students are engaged in personal study of God's Word
  • it includes in-depth discussion about the text so students can hear and learn from their peers
  • it provides an atmosphere for students to adequately observe Scripture, interpret the text, and see its relevance to their lives as a son or daughter, sibling, leader, and ultimately, as a life-long Christian.

What is inductive study?

Inductive Bible Study is a powerful way to discover God’s truth for yourself by using the Bible as the primary source.

There are three components in Inductive Bible Study:
Observation – Discovering what the text says
Interpretation – Determining what the text means
Application – Applying the text’s meaning to life

The Creator and Author of life has shown us how to live a satisfying, eternally significant life. Careful observation and accurate interpretation reveal application -- what to believe and how to live.
